Rita Barry, Direct Patient Care Volunteer for All Care Hospice

What brought you to volunteering at All Care?

I heard about Hospice for years but wasn’t really sure what it was or  did  until  my  friend’s  daughter  was a client.  My friend couldn’t say enough about how much Hospice and the volunteers made a difference in her daughter’s and family’s life.

What’s something we don’t already know about you that you’d like us to know?

Let’s see I love road trips.  I eat peanut butter every day, don’t leave the house without earrings and usually a scarf.  I’m also a true crime addict.

Can you share something about your experience with volunteering at All Care?

I learned that the smallest acts of kindness can make the day for a Hospice patient.  By simply providing companionship and just being there is emotionally fulfilling for me and I hope for the patient.  I receive much more than I give when visiting with a patient.
