Students engage with speakers at AIDS Day event

Marblehead Reporter / December 10, 2007

In recognition of World AIDS Day on Saturday, Dec.1, Marblehead resident and All Care Hospice Medical Director Dr. Lewis Hays, along with Stephanie David, chairwoman of the AIDS Awareness Inc. organization, presented an educational seminar to Marblehead High School students. The two speakers, in conjunction with the Marblehead High School Wellness Department, have been working together for many years.

“Our message focuses on abstinence, teen safety and the power of choice,” said Mike Lavender, Wellness Teacher at Marblehead High. “This year’s theme is ‘teen leadership’ and promotes 25 small changes that can make a big difference.”

According to Lavender, the students thoroughly interacted with the presenters, asking questions and completing a quiz on the topic.

Shown at the Marblehead High World AIDS Day event Saturday, Dec. 1 are Tamara Moise of Marblehead, Raphael Cox of Boston, Mike Lavender of the MHS Wellness Department, Dr. Lewis Hays of All Care Hospice, Stephanie David of AIDS Awareness, John O’Connell of Marblehead and Mike Cecere of the MHS Wellness Department.
