Resident honored for 40-plus years on All Care board

Celebrating 96 years in home health care, Health Management Services Inc. and its subsidiaries, All Care Visiting Nurse Association, All Care Hospice, All Care Resources and All Care Adult Day Health Center hosted their annual meeting on May 7 at Spinelli’s.

President and CEO of All Care Shawn Potter, along with chairman of the board Jay Fenton, presented an award to Marblehead resident and board member Josephine E. Hanson for over 40 years of dedicated service.

Hanson’s involvement with home care began in the 1960s, and her role was imperative in the mergers that formed the VNA of Greater Lynn and All Care Resources Inc., according to Potter and Fenton. As a board member of the Swampscott Community Services Inc., an agency founded in 1912 to provide nursing services and home care to the people of Swampscott, Hanson was instrumental in the merger between the Visiting Nurse Services of Swampscott Community Services and the Lynn VNA. The joining together of these two home-care companies formed the VNA of Greater Lynn, which is now All Care VNA.

The Homemaker/Home Health Aide Services of the North Shore Inc. was established in 1966, and Hanson sat as president of the board from 1968-69. In 1984, her dedication once again helped create a new affiliation between the Homemakers/Home Health Aide Services of the North Shore Inc. and the VNA, creating what is now known as All Care Resources Inc.

All Care honored Hanson as the board member of the Year in 1989, and her excellence and commitment has not faltered a day since the distinction, according to Potter and Fenton. Today, she remains a valued member on both the Health Management Services Inc. and the All Care Resources boards.

Upon honoring Hanson, Potter additionally announced that All Care would be presenting an employee award annually in her name. The Josephine E. Hanson Award for Excellence in Professional Achievement will acknowledge an employee who demonstrates exceptional job performance and is committed to All Care’s mission, vision and strategic plan. It will be presented to an employee who conducts him or herself in a positive and professional demeanor and strives for continued professional development and excellence. The award will be presented at the annual dinner, beginning in 2009
